The Role

As a CAD Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing accurate, cost-effective, and practical CAD models and engineering drawings that meet functional, quality, and manufacturing requirements. You’ll report to the Technical Manager and work closely with colleagues across design, sales, production, and installation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Progress new designs from concept through to manufacture
  • Revise drawings in response to design reviews, engineering changes, and manufacturing feedback
  • Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles
  • Prepare and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Maintain drawing control, documentation, and revision history
  • Liaise with suppliers regarding technical specifications and components
  • Support prototype builds, inspections, and design validation
  • Provide technical guidance to production and installation teams
  • Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage workload effectively to meet project timescales

About You

You will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a CAD design or engineering role, ideally within a manufacturing or fabrication environment. We welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds, including industry experience, technical apprenticeships, or relevant degree qualifications.

You will:

  • Have experience using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Understand sheet metal design principles and fabrication processes
  • Be confident producing accurate technical drawings and layout plans
  • Be organised and capable of managing multiple projects
  • Communicate clearly and work well within a small team
  • Be proactive, curious, and motivated to develop your skills
  • Have a portfolio of previous work (desirable but not essential)

Why Join Us?
